I think that's a huge benefit of these non-holiday days off. I don't work at Epic, but at my employer when one of these comes up, half of the time I use it to take the day to work in complete peace. No slack / no email / no webex
It's bliss, and I enjoy it very much. The other half of the time I go out and do something.
The choice is part of the benefit mentally as well.
