"But actually, he thought as he re-adjusted the Ministry of Plenty's figures, it was not even forgery. It was merely the substitution of one piece of nonsense for another."
Apple seems to be in some sort of power struggle with their users, they resist doing exactly what the users demand from them, always embedding some sort of change just to make sure they are not totally "obeying" users. Some sort of ego clash where they want to feel that they know better than the users and Inventor's syndrome is manifesting here.
I would agree with you if they didn't just knock it out of the park. Just observation and made up statistics but the only grievance is the notch and while it gets headlines it seems like 9 out of 10 don't mind at all.
I strongly prefer the Intel 16 inch design with the touch bar, USB C and a regular screen. Would have been great if they had cut the 1960s headphone jack as well. In no rush to get the new MBPs. And I don't get the need for that notch. Other manufacturers have a pinhole webcam. Can someone explain to me why I need 32 graphics cores in a laptop? Seems to me that space could have dropped in a NOC and more regular cores, which for a developer would have made a purchase case. Is this a computer or a portable video editing station?
My guess is that they carved out that real estate so they can cram more stuff like FaceID in there later, or just have room for camera stuff.
Personally I think it's great, and I'm ecstatic to see the touchbar go. I already have an M1 mini, but I'm going to pick up one of these laptops soon. Well worth the wait.
It's magical how Apple apologists point to the completely arbitrary and unnecessary design fault and opine about what great things the masters might be planning for the future.
What we have here is a laptop with a missing chunk of its screen. How anyone can "think it's great", I can't even.
It's literally of no consequence. I wouldn't say I prefer it, but why not just look at it as two bits of screen added vs a bit removed? You can black out those pixels if it's that upsetting and your problem is solved.
Note the top bar with webcam, and the wasted space to the left and right. That’s two large chunks of screen missing which the Apple laptop has. How can anyone buy a laptop with this much wasted space!
The images weren't loading on the dell site but I googled images. I don't see a lot of wasted space on the left and right. Looks like about 4mm of bezel at a guess. I wouldn't complain about that. Also it's more than $1k cheaper than the Apple, isn't it? Very nice that it's available with an OLED screen as well. OLED > size to me.
I wouldn't buy Apple anyway, but before you ask why I care, it's because their idiotic trends tend to trickle into other brands.
I won't buy a phone without a headphone socket, and I won't be buying a laptop with a chunk out of the screen either.
Apple’s only mistake here is in not defaulting to a below the notch traditional revealed menu bar and an auto-hidden menu option. The user could then use a new “reveal” option to move the menu bar into the notch area. It would feel like getting a freebie then, instead of the notch feeling like it’s taking something away.
Reveal + !autohide = always visible, reveal + autohide = normally a black bezel. !reveal = default = menu appears below the notch and bezel is black

I'm not a MacOS guy, but I always maximize/fullscreen my windows.
We can agree to disagree, I hate the notch and you don't.
I'd get a rectangular OLED screen with a 2mm thicker bezel over an IPS with a notch any day of the week.
I have a notch in my phone screen and it sucks.
