Nope. If your boss plays golf you play golf. If your bosses boss goes to church you go to the same church even if you are an atheist. If the higher ups stay late you stay later. If the higher ups get in early you get in earlier. You’ll shoot up the corporate ladder.
That's actually quite an insightful piece. As it says, “Strategy” is a nebulous concept, but so are many articles about how to think strategically.

I find asking senior people about their vision (no, not their eyesight) is a good way to understand the background and context to many low level decisions.

Strategic thinking is the ability to give direction and a specific goal to thinking based on predictions. Of course, this ability can be developed, for example, try to foresee, be critical, analyze past experiences, go beyond the usual thinking.
