"The Department of Environmental Conservation denied permits for two proposed natural gas power plants, saying they were incompatible with the state’s climate law, which calls for an end to fossil fuel-generated electricity by 2040."
What will New Yorkers say if they face spiraling power prices and blackouts?
Unfortunately we already know. They will just double down on their failed policies. Because the alternative would be to admit failure and they would rather people suffer than to ever do that.
> HB 2021 sets a timetable by which Oregon’s two major power companies, Portland General Electric and Pacific Power, must eliminate emissions associated with the electricity they provide. Five “electricity service suppliers” in the state also would face regulation, though their emissions are tiny compared to the big utilities.
> While at least 17 other states have similar goals, Oregon’s timeline of getting power suppliers to zero emissions by 2040 is more ambitious than nearly all. In addition to that end date, regulated entities would be required to submit plans to reduce emissions by 80% from a baseline amount by 2030 and 90% by 2035.
They wont face blackouts, they will import electricity from elsewhere. Still, it's a great opportunity for red states to build more reliable energy capacity and sell that to the blue states, which will need to import more power from them.
If they don't do that, you will see rising prices everywhere, not just in New York, because there is a huge eastern grid, NY is not an isolated market that has to supply its own electricity.
Sounds like good news to me. Adding more natural gas plants will just create more demand for fracking operations, which involves chemicals that bind to water at a molecular level.
Fracking will continue as they are mainly after the oil. The by product natural gas will simply be sent to burn off towers instead of being used to cheaply power people's homes.
articles like this sound good until you realize that the grid often interconnects over multiple states. With pipeline infrastructure lacking. My guess is these gas plants are going to be built in states like Pennsylvania close to where gas is being produced. Easier to convert the shale gas into electricity closer to where it is produced.

They’ll scratch their heads and then vote Democrat again.
They’re not single issue voters but Trump hates immigrants. I’ll live by candle light if that’s what it takes!
