Ask HN: What's it like to write C++ for work?

I've been an engineer for about 6 years now, I've worked on a range of projects (none of them CRUD apps). My interests are pulling me towards positions that require C++.

What's the actual experience like? Are the tools good and modern? Is dealing with the ecosystem a pain or a pleasure? I've heard that C++ is so feature-rich that everyone necessarily uses some subset of the language and nobody knows the whole thing, does this impede development in practice?
