In addition to the advice from gus_massa about posting in the monthly thread, it would be nice to hear about things that you are really interested in learning about. I understand you just want to gain experience, but what specific types of products do you find exciting and want to dive into and learn about?
I'm generally interested in a more systematic approach. I'd like to work with others on a project entailing really anything. As of right now, my interests are more abstract because I haven't been programming for too long or haven't spent a majority of my time focusing on a single concept. I would like an internship for the chance of collaberation and communication with those of experience and higher caliber :)
In the US, unpaid work is generally against the law (Fair Labor Standards Act) unless you qualify as an intern under the guidelines. I think you’ll find companies reluctant to take you on without pay because of the risks. If you can find a place that takes on interns that’s a possibility. Your university probably has an office that can help.

Early in your career you should consider focusing on getting any real-world programming experience, including learning business domains, how to participate in a team building real software, and making connections that can help you throughout your career (and whom you can help eventually). I wouldn’t focus on a language or framework, those are more alike than not and come and go over time.
