TL; DW -- the hobbyist was able to make a mic for $30 that arguably competes with an $800 mic setup.
$30 and god knows how much time & tooling to make the brass mount.

Sure, if you've already got all the tooling & skill required then by all means go ahead, but otherwise most of these projects aren't worth it when you value your time.

I'm sold on the audio quality. I'm not an audio enthusiast, but it sounded incredibly clean. I would definitely pay $100 for a prebuilt version.
Never heard of THAT Corporation and their preamps, can someone give context and how they compare to preamps from the usual suspects (AD, TI, LT, ST, etc.)?

I mean, if you don't consider the fancy structure, it's pretty doable for cheap. GG
