[–] jeffrallen 4y ago ↗ I am constantly amazed by the weird and wonderful things I see on Atlas Obscura. Thank you!
[–] jdhn 4y ago ↗ What a great read. I love seeing these little weird slices of Americana being preserved for future generations.
[–] Robotbeat 4y ago ↗ This is super cool. Yeah, fossil oil tech belongs in a museum, not the cornerstone of our civilization.
[–] zweifuss 4y ago ↗ The refineries of Abu Kadir are also very small (German documentary): https://www.arte.tv/de/videos/104498-000-A/syrien-warum-schu... French version: https://www.arte.tv/fr/videos/030273-834-A/arte-reportage/
[–] benzofuran 4y ago ↗ I actually just drove by that last week - there's a fun plaque out front but as of today it's very junky up there (seems adjacent property owner is allowing their yard to become junkyardish). It was a cool little slice of history to see!
[–] kryz 4y ago ↗ This was even more interesting to read given the context of the Standard Oil episode of the Acquired podcast recently
