The timing of this article is one of those "deja vu" moments as I was only reading about Mount Bromo[1] yesterday out of interest on the "volcanic human sacrifice" trope.
There is also some (?:folk)lore about pre-columbians of Nicaragua who - believing a witch inhabited the volcano - used to sacrifice children to the Masaya Volcano[2][3].
