Specifically, a strange spin-out of Centaur from VIA, prompted by a $125M payment from Intel to VIA. Intel seems to be hiring or gaining the right to recruit from Centaur engineers. It remains unclear whether this consolidates the Centaur x86 license into Intel. Commentary is minimal from the companies involved.
I used Centaur chips in place of Intel Pentium chips for a cheaper system.
