“Crypto bros”, “crypto stans”, misunderstanding about transaction costs, loads of fear. Really just, such a fresh and new take.

Who are these articles for?

Does everything have to be an exploitative grift though?

With reddit also announcing cryprocurrency based karma, I'm starting to think that this is all an effort to cash out on whatever goodwill they may have.

Frankly I wish this stuff would calm down already, but it may have to run its course and people will have to get hurt or die when the next black swan event occurs.

Maybe this will be what leads to the down fall of Reddit and Discord.

Hopefully their replacements will learn their lessons as they once learnt the lessons from those they replaced. Ultimately it's greed.

Oh yeah, giving decentralized power to the users is soooo bad. Man i wish Facebook paid me for my fucking data.
Ah, this article is for you!

Why adding an optional feature in a free app that tons of users want badly is "exploitative grift" I'm not sure I'll ever be able to understand.

one of the essential tenets of capitalism is that it isn't a scam if enough hegemonic corporations engage in it
Because it’s not a scam. Remember in the 80s and 90s when ecommerce was a scam, boomers said putting your credit card on a computer is daNgErOuS!!!
Of course it is. While shitcoins at least have some possibility to work in some limited context, NFTs are a clear scam. The easiest way to get it - it is because every single word said about them by authors is a lie today. Literally nothing of the advertised features exist in reality today.
Terrible article, but admittedly also a questionable move by Discord, especially that bullshit survey. If you're worried that the survey will produce results you don't like, holding a rigged survey only makes you look worse.

NFTs are scammy and of dubious value, but the Ethereum ecosystem has legitimate potential. If Discord users refuse to see ads and don't want to buy Nitro though, shady NFTs might be the only way to pay the bills.
