Can't wait to stand in a line in a virtual government office! Jokes aside but this just sounds like someone thought "our city hall but in vr"
The DMV here in CA really improved their online offerings due to covid. Now you can do almost anything that previously would have required waiting in line. It's ridiculous that it took this long.

Email is just so much better than waiting in line. It takes them 2-3 days to respond, but there is a ticketing system and it just works.

I guess they just want to become the…

…wait for it…

Seoul of the Metaverse.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

I don't know about Seoul specifically, just thinking it's really disappointing if organizations are building a "Metaverse Presence" instead of using money to have actual people - though whatever medium - help their clients. Would you rather have a metaverse chatbot that can't help you, or an extra person at the service centre that can actually address your problems.

Orgs love to rush to anything that has the promise of not having to employ a real person to help. I wish they'd just give up and spend the money on actual counter or call center staff.

This is just like when every organization wanted a sim in SecondLife. They ran political campaigns and public events there. It was what you did 10 years ago for public (metaverse) presence.

Now.. crickets....

3.3 million dollars... well at least I guess that's cheaper than what we wasted on Seoul's official motto, I•SEOUL•U.

(...which is still miles better than Gangnam District's official motto: ME ME WE GANGNAM.)
