Ask HN: What are good resources to learn about graphics design?

10 points by truly ↗ HN
I am trying to get better at making my own drawings and animations.

I would like a recommendation for a good lecture/book that teaches graphics design. Paid or free, what is important to me is the quality. I have tried googling around, but I cannot tell what is good from what is bad.

Specifically, I'm looking for resources that help me answer questions such as: do these colours go together, what are the right proportions of these objects, what would be the right font here.

I'm not looking for technical resources such as: how to make a transparent rectangle in GIMP.

I think it's a wise compliment. Recall, they used to teach "draftsmanship" alongside engineering back in the day ;)

So which of the lectures in the course do you recommend?

Is this one, Fundamentals of Graphic Design, any good?

I like the History of GD: Bauhaus, Swiss Modern, Pop Art, etc ;)
