My only question is "WHY?!?" It makes no sense in a strategic regime to ACTUALLY BLOW UP THE SATELLITE! Not only that, it was a huge satellite.
Launching the rocket? Sure! Tracking the target? Why not! Actually hitting it? Stupid! Maybe Russia is done with space and doesn't care if anyone else isn't?
This is almost like testing your weapon by pointing it at your foot and pulling the trigger. You can test an orbital interceptor without hitting the target or scattering debris in a dangerous orbit.
I honestly think Russia is mostly just trying to say "Hey, we can do it too!" after China and India did their tests. A test without a big boom would just lose face and those in charge didn't give a flying fig about Kessler densities or placing their target in a low perigee orbit ahead of time.
