This is just messaging to let people know that their profits in the coming quarters are not going to be as high as they expected. They'll continue to produce the required amount of fertilizers at tax payer expense which is a good argument to remove profit motives from the agricultural sector entirely since letting people starve to preserve profits is a nonsensical proposition.
The unfolding humanitarian crisis in Madagascar is another matter entirely and has more to do with droughts as a result of global warming than anything related to gas and ammonia prices. There is enough food being produced right now to feed the people in Madagascar but coordinating the effort is proving to be beyond the capabilities of the current set of leaders and institutions.
In order to increase cost 3x, the component responsible for the cost increase (energy) should rise at least 3x - and more if there are other components in the cost. Do we have energy costs - like, gas prices - increase that much?.. What am I missing?
