Why? It seems funny? :)
it feels to me like a thinly veiled attempt to manipulate you into resubscribing by relying on your capability for empathy.

I can see that it's clearly not real but it isn't particularly funny and has just lowered my opinion of groupon somewhat.

Humour is clearly subjective.

Interesting how things which were widely considered funny when Groupon was a struggling startup are considered in bad taste now that Groupon is a billion dollar corporation...
Not sure I've seen that particular unsubscribe page before but rest assured if I had I would have found it just as distasteful where they a startup or a successful company.

Of course I can't speak for others.

It was posted on HN back then as an example of an awesome unsubscribe page.

Things change...

No, that is pure awesome. Everyone understands it's a joke, and just their attempt to get you to resubscribe. Showing that the company has a sense of humor is a good thing.
This kind of post makes no sense on Hacker news. It isn't newsworthy, or anything we can read/learn from, really. It's a link and a title - nothing else - representing only the OP's opinion. Now we do frequently see opinions here, but they are typically something valid we can comment on - get behind or disagree with. Commenting on a post that simply links somewhere and says it's the "Worst X", regardless of what X is, is a waste of time. This post should have never made it to the front-page.

Sorry about the vent, maybe I'm just whiny today, but seriously. What a waste of time. I do think this post shows a lack of respect for the community.

Edit: I get that this might be a strong post/opinion, but if you're going to downvote it, at least tell me why you disagree. Don't just hide behind anonymity.

I'm gonna keep it short since there's already a lot of replies to posts such as yours on other submissions.

Down-vote it if you don't like it. Flag it if it's silly.

Oops I just noticed I left out the question mark in the title. Just added it now.

Overall this is interesting/unique and I thought worth sharing. Also I wondered how effective or ineffective you thought this is?

Personally I hate spam emails (signed up for groupon mistakenly) so I just want them banished. Nothing is going to be effective to get me to re-subscribe. But, nice try Groupon!

About the title, it's a trend by the media to claim something absurd and justify it with a question mark to avoid accountability. I do think it makes your title more silly.

"ASK HN: What do you think of this unsubscribe page?" is a lot more welcoming, I think.
