Nikita leaving is indeed quite a blow for PHP. I’ve been reading some of the rfcs recently, and a lot of the good ones came from him. Also he seemed to have the clout to get them passed.

Nikita, if you’re reading this, thanks for all your work improving a language i use daily. Best of luck in your next adventure.

Doesn't 300k/year sound too little to fund development of such a popular language?
That's to start, before public announcement. More funding will come as more companies realize how important it is for it to happen. There's really not been any avenue for companies to directly fund PHP core development before.

Even if now I have to do rust dev in my professional time I still quite enjoy doing php on weekends for small personal project
