No one in the nuclear club will listen to such pronouncements. In fact no country with nuclear weapons has ever been invaded to date.
Did the Iranian government write this article? Reads like a propaganda leaflet

'Iran's aversion to nuclear and chemical weapons is sincere because of the "historical episode during its eight-year war with Iraq", and Iran never sought revenge for Iraqi chemical attacks against Iran'

So, seeing the Analysis section is mostly specifically dealing with the truthfulness and honesty of this "fatwa", and that it constitutes almost half of the text of the article, I find your comment a little strange. Moreover, two third of the sources cited are western sources.

Thankfully, there is the always "Talk" tab at the top of the page, which shows you it was written by a diverse set of editors. Most are generally active in other non-proliferation articles.

You'll also see that the editors even had an exchange regarding "taqqiya", which is roughly a religious exemption to lying and dissembling when a muslim believes him/herself of being in danger due to religious prosecution/discrimination.

In conclusion, you might want to read it again, or in full, as well as the Foreign Policy article the quote came from.

P.S.: Also, please consider that foreign enemies of the USA are not necessarily the cookie-cutter comic book villains they are made out to be by mainstream news and politicians. They are like onions. They make you cry, yes, and hurt your eyes, yes, but they also have many layers which might surprise you.
