"Lifetime" claims by companies have tended to mean:

  min(lifetime(company), lifetime(customer))
where the customer's lifetime has often turned out longer (at least the customer has something to be thankful for).

If you have a good solution, customers are happy to pay to make sure you stay in business so they won't have to look for another solution.
