How is a matrix used to count fish? (gist.github.com)

I wrote this to try to explain how you can use matrices math to evaluate a recurrence sequence efficiently, which is something that came up in AOC today. I hope that it makes sense and is helpful to anyone wondering wtf all the matrix stuff was doing.
