The scoop of the White House alleged trying to reshape media coverage of the economy and supply chain:

The White House, not happy with the news media's coverage of the supply chain and economy, has been working behind the scenes trying to reshape coverage in its favor. Senior White House and admin officials — including NEC Deputy Directors David Kamin and Bharat Ramamurti, along with Ports Envoy John Porcari — have been briefing major newsrooms over the past week, a source tells me.

The officials have been discussing with newsrooms trends pertaining to job creation, economic growth, supply chains, and more. The basic argument that has been made: That the country's economy is in much better shape than it was last year. I'm told the conversations have been productive, with anchors and reporters and producers getting to talk with the officials...

Wow, the story is literally that government officials have been briefing reporters and may have an angle to sell.
The media already ran through "inflation isn't happening" to "inflation is good for us!" ... Can't the White House keep up? Perhaps they need to hire some media people, instead of it going the other way around.
I predicted a three stage approach to inflation coverage.

1) No, inflation isn't happening. What you're actually seeing is [.....]. In fact, you should be worried about deflation more than anything else.

2) Some inflation is happening but don't be afraid because it's perfectly normal, expected, and a good thing! Here's how inflation can help the middle class....

3) Yes, inflation happened and you should be thankful that it happened.

Sort of like adverse reactions to vaccines...
Big Pharma would say that the economy is going gangbusters.
The "This isn't happening" to "Actually, it's happening, and it's A Good Thing™" cycle has been ramping up a lot over the past few years. They can't even keep their own narratives internally consistent anymore.
It takes two to tango. WH can try to influence the angle but ultimately it's up to the press to report the unbiased truth (which they rarely do).
The central bank (the US Federal Reserve) kept buying bonds and kept interest rates at near zero; inflation was a foregone conclusion. If it's great, why do we have to change how it's marketed?

"Inflation is the one form of taxation that can be imposed without legislation." - Milton Friedman

I'm not a fan of political stuff on HN, and flag stuff like this, but I feel the need to point out just how bad/sensationalized this article is.

> Lawmakers don't set the narratives inside the GOP as much as they react to their voters acting on those narratives. The people responsible for setting the narratives are the media propagandists that much of the conservative base trusts and turns to for its news and information.

Republicans listen to voters, and voters listen to pundits? Is this supposed to be novel news reporting? And if Republicans have such strong propaganda doesn't that imply it's the other way around? Or do they not know what propaganda is?

> In other words, Nunes isn't even exiting Congress for a sure bet on a right-wing platform like Fox News.

If Trump really secured a billion dollars that's an instant unicorn, and is probably not a bad bet. Why is the author so sure Fox will be around forever?

> Over at Axios, Sara Fischer and Dan Primack published a must-read story Monday morning about how the right is building its own eco [sic] chamber

This article is literally just a bullet point list of new "right wing" social networks and publishers with no evidence they've gained any traction compared to traditional social media, or of an echo chamber. There's 0 evidence presented that "a book publishing house called Winning Team Publishing" are selling to users that only read Winning Team books and or that it has significant sales at all.

> "While I have a thick skin, I also have a family, for whom the past week has been extraordinarily difficult," Cuomo said. "So, right now, I have to take a step back and focus on what comes next. That means I will no longer be doing my SiriusXM radio show..."

Yes CNN, that's the most significant quote from Cuomo about this story. Not him saying CNN was fully aware of what he was doing.

> SCOOP: White House quietly tries to reshape economic coverage

SCOOP! Biden would prefer coverage of him be more positive. Very breaking, very novel, never seen before. You might as well be reporting the sky is blue.

> Smollett offered testimony for about five hours that suggested the brothers -- whom he knew from the 'Empire' set -- may have had other motivations at play.

Who, in more news of CNN's moral bankruptcy, was notified in advance of the police's investigation into his story by CNN's own Don Lemon. But sure, leave that out.
