I love historical fiction! What a great find. The complexity of social change in this time is amazing, that people can go from slave and serfdom to positions of authority as the enlightenment unwinds pre revolutionary social structures.

Also, Theres the implicit dependence on slave labour in "Mansfield park" driving the departure of the "adults in the room" which carries much of the middle chapters of Austen forward.
