Ask HN: Is the Customer Ever Right?

1 points by Flankk ↗ HN
You're supposed to listen to feedback from your customers and use it to improve your product. I feel like if you did everything customers suggested you would end up with a bloated design-by-committee mess. If you try to make everyone happy you will make nobody happy. How do you strike a balance between your perfect vision and that of the stinky unwashed masses?

If you think your customers stink you’ve got problems.
That is obvious hyperbole. Say something constructive.
They're usually right from their perspective, at that time. They may tell you something completely different next week.

If you listen to a lot of them, you might be able to draw useful lessons. Individually it's either extremely partial or just noise.
