The article reads like a PSA for mental health services. There is more focus on "who" is getting therapy than "why", and the "worry" is simply that there is not enough supply of mental health professionals to meet demand.

Call me a boomer but I'm not sure why the nyt would run such a piece. It reads like fluff to maximize engagement metrics. I'm not sure where to turn to for actual journalism these days.

I live in South Africa and recently had to visit my GP. She reported that they were seeing some dramatic increases in visits for depression, random accidental injuries and so on.

I'd guess it to be a world-wide problem at this point, depending on how the lock-downs, limited personal interaction etc. have affected everyone.
