I read over and over for years on multiple sites that EVs were far lighter than gas cars because they didn’t need an engine. Was that just marketing lies?

The electric powertrains are significantly lighter and simpler than their ICE counterparts. Batteries, on the other hand, are heavy.
Does most of the wear come from a tire at standstill getting a big jolt of torque? Did anybody make an algorithm to introduce torque gently?
