At this point, why are we even taking NFTs seriously? Like the whole premise of NFT was like people can copy paste stuff as they like from and to the blockchain. The only thing that you leave with is bragging rights because you have something on the blockchain registered as yours. Platforms should not be using NFTs as a way to validate things.

My extremely naïve, reductionist take:

The point of NFTs is money.

If people could have figured out how to attach a price to replicable data and convince people that it was worth buying ten years ago, they would have cherished it as much as they are now. The technology and the evangelism are nothing more than distractions.

Have any artists sued NFT platforms for copyright infringement around the sale of their IP?

Am I naive in thinking they could probably get courts to order the NFT platform to pay the artist all proceeds of the sale of their art (from their own pocket if the fraudulent seller was already paid)?

Are the NFT platforms' owners in jurisdictions which make this difficult/impossible?

Platforms honor DMCA takedowns and remove violations from their front end (even if they are on the blockchain).

I can't help but wonder if there's something broader to be said about the idea of intellectual property and this example.

I think NFTs might have some useful application but the current common usage seems like digital tulip mania.

people have literally been saying that about bitcoin since it was created.
I've had two works minted on OpenSea myself, but at least they were quick to delist them once a DMCA-based message was filed.

It's frustrating and weird.
