Ask HN: Best apps for removing paper texture from old photos?

I have just came into the possession of some family photos from the 50's that were printed on paper that has a crosshatch like pattern on it.

What are the best software tools that I can use to remove this texture from these scanned photos? I would prefer something that works on macOS but Windows or Linux is fine.
