One of the (many) issues I had with The Matrix was that it was always very clear cut when they were in the simulation and when they were in the real world, whereas if the simulation was that realistic shouldn't there have been constant doubt? That's one of the things I liked about the film eXistenZ (released the same year) - there was always that underlying "are we still in the game?" deep anxiety and paranoia running through it. So it was interesting to read that Baudrillard also agreed that "The Matrix is surely the kind of film about the matrix that the matrix would have been able to produce".
