Ask HN: How hard is it to find a home Covid test kit in your city/country?

Finding a home test kit has been basically impossible in the bay area this last week, which is very frustrating. Curious to understand how widespread this experience is, and how much it's an issue of unusually high local demand vs the US dropping the ball.

In Romania, I go to a pharmacy, and they have it for 30 RON ($7 or so). But it goes up to 100 RON ($23) during a COVID wave (right now, incidence is low).

I am in NYC and I was able to get a test kit from an official city run testing site. It was free. Within my neigbourhood I have a lot of options for PCR and rapid testing. All free or cheap.

Berlin: They've gone a bit up in price (~3€ per piece now) and for about a week 2-3 weeks ago they were not available everywhere.

UK: Very easy. They're free, you can order one pack of 7 per day either online or for local collection. It's been this way for months and months.

I've heard there have been some availability problems recently but I don't know anyone personally who has had trouble getting a pack.
