Ask HN: What's the chance that Google is detuning their email spam algorithm?

Many people have noticed that extremely obvious spam emails have getting past gmail's spam filters [1].

I honestly can't help but suspect that there's been a deliberate detuning of the spam algorithm, possibly limited to the free tier. Perhaps this is part of a plan to eventually promote a new service or strongly push for paid accounts in 2022 or 2023.

I suppose there's nothing fundamentally wrong with that. They are a business after all. (Though sometimes we are the product.)
