> Right now, elected sheriffs openly promote resistance to federal authority.

And mayors and governors too - they even passed laws mandating it, and in one case it was even done through "unilateral executive action of a non-elected official":

New Jersey became a sanctuary state on March 15, 2019 when a November 29, 2018 directive issued by state Attorney General Gurbir Grewal (D) went into effect.

This appears to be the first case of a state being made into a sanctuary for illegal aliens by the unilateral executive action of a non-elected official (Grewal was appointed by Democratic Governor Phil Murphy).

Civil disobedience is a crucial part of liberal democracy. What's scary is not that it's happening, it's that it's being vilified. I'd expect and want resistance to unjust laws, and in fact such resistance is a moral obligation.
Are borders unjust? Is it illegitimate for nations to decide who is part of them? To set limits who they will share their country with, who they will allow to decide the nation's future via voting?
It's a complicated question, for example I think the US/Canada border should be open, but overall I don't believe on open borders and think there should be enforced limits on immigration.

That said, I still believe in civil disobedience and in people behaving according to their conscience. Such behavior is a major defence against what would otherwise be psychopathy in government.

It shouldn't be based on whether I agree or disagree, and in general there should still be consequences for actions, but civil disobedience is still important

But the problem is that there is no unity on where it should be done. One person's "resistance to unjust laws" is another person's rationalization of moral abomination.

Scott Trust Limited owns Guardian Media Group which owns The Guardian. Scott Trust is controlled by bankers. Board member Anthony Salz is executive vice chairman of Rothschild. He helped Rupert Murdoch form Sky UK Limited. Rupert Murdoch is the founder and CEO of News Corporation, the world's second-largest media conglomerate. Rags like The Guardian are nothing more than mouthpieces for the global elite. I think people are waking up to the fact that the media is owned by bankers and the government is owned by corporations, and this threatens their grip on power. Works of fiction like this article are subterfuge and intended to divide and conquer.
