It turns out Bill Gate isn't immune to hype or PR pressure either.
It is interesting to think back in those days, internet wasn't a thing for a lot of people. Marketing / PR / Hype mostly use good old fashion magazine to generate interest. And they were ( at least in my view ) no where near as zealotry as today's technology evangelism. Plenty of heated discussion about how apps like Gaming will never work on Java. And how GC pause is not a fixable problem.
