“Here at Mozilla, we understand the importance of words. This is why we’ve decided to stop using the word ‘browser’ because of its implications of sexual harassment. Like it or not, the word brings up thoughts of perverse men scoping out prospective women as targets for harassment. We have also realized the offensive nature of the word ‘add-on’ as it implies an environment of inferior, dependent parts too akin to discrimination. Instead of having ‘add-ons’ for our ‘browsers’, we will replace all verbiage so that we will instead have ‘specialized modules of equal import’ for our ‘diverse and inclusive web interface applications’. On the topic of gender, we feel that this concept of binary language is one steeped in a bigoted history that invokes thoughts of discrimination against gender non-conforming individuals. While we can’t change the industry, at Mozilla we will commit to instead referring to this as the ‘non-binary’ language. We hope this simplifies things.”
