Can someone point me to a resource about using heat pumps for central heating a home? Can we use a heat pump as a replacement to a boiler of old style central heating system that uses heated water?
The ones I could find can only take the water to 50c. I could augment the same with a solar water heater but not sure if it can work.
Either that or using heat pump air conditioner per room setup to heat only required rooms.
The hotter you want the water, the less efficient the heat pump becomes.
Modern heat pump systems use water around 30-40C, and make up for the lower temperature with massive radiators or underfloor heating (which is in effect a radiator the size of the floor).
A really good resource is the water heater chapter in the Rewiring America guide linked above. Another good resource (for the US): https://www.yellowtin.com/yt-faq-hpwh/
There are a lot of heat pumps on the market that can produce hotter water. For example, a popular Rheem model heats to 145 F / 62 C:
