Ask HN: What would be a better name for TeXmacs?

TeXmacs is not based on TeX nor emacs but is inspired by both.

Many people are confused by the name though.

What would be a better name for this WYSIWYG scientific/math word processor with output comparable to TeX/LaTeX?

P.S. I’m not a TeXmacs developer but I am a fan.

How unbelievably daft. I always assumed it was a TeX/LaTeX package / mode for emacs.

Dude, I've been telling this guy this for weeks and he's finally gotten it. (It's one of several experiences I've had on HN this week of actually getting recognition from people which never seems to happen on online forums!)

He doesn't need to get any grief over this, he needs our help moving forwards.

Is it a emacs clone or a TeX ide?

There are already excellent TeX modes available for Emacs without using a standalone application.

Despite being a Emacs and TeX user, I must admit that I have no clear idea of what this strangely named thing is.

And since it sounds like it implements parts of both, probably poorly if the bizarre naming is any indication of other development decisions, I have no inclination to explore it.

It's neither. It's more like Microsoft Word but with high quality output for scientific/math documents.

Maybe use something in the name about it being a structure editor. Like GNU StructMacs. By the way I think it is an awesome program.

How about "ScienceWrite" or "Science Writer"?
