Ask HN: What is your oncall alarm or ringtone?

The typical one is the siren. I try to make mine less alarming and so I put on a comical low-toned "ghost" noise. They always become associated with bad times as incidents start to associate with the song.

How do people deal with this? Any sound(s) that work better for people?

If you use PagerDuty your choices are limited.

Always on call because salaried Sysadmin, so mine is just my usual ringtone. Just don't choose anything you like, or you'll grow to hate it.

Or choose something you hate, right from the start. And it has to be loud enough and have sufficient annoying tones in it to cut though extraneous noise.
