My value has most often been the ability to deal effectively with unforseen circumstances. Just because I've done this a handful of times, there's no real reason to believe that I will be able to handle the next one. There is reason to believe that I'd be better equipped than another arbitrary person.
Lately though, I've been working much more interactively on project teams. I focus more on the team's direction and output as much as I do my own. Or rather I consider my output to be the consistent and simple framing of problems and solutions that lead to coherent implementations. I don't know that this can be measured though it can be felt by those working with me.
My answer to the question of value, is I don't give a sh* how others value my contributions. In the end (literally of my life) I have to be satisfied with my own assessment of value.

[ 3.1 ms ] story [ 17.3 ms ] threadWho says only the disabled have poor output? That's silly.
