Why should this warrant a ban though? It was his GitHub repo and as far as I know you are allowed to put anything you want in there as long as it's not a breach of copyright, illegal or inappropriate.
I think the reasoning is that he betrayed his responsibility as he was a part of the Open Source supply chain, which he started using for other than its advertised purpose.
I really wonder, why was he banned from GH? What terms did he actually break? Had he not made the bug blatantly intentional or announcing his actions, would he not be banned now?
I think the intentionality is completely irrelevant. I don't like his childish attitude, but I do find a rather strong satirical point in this new, obviously dishonest, claim of a programming mistake.
How would you know the difference in a future fiasco if the "developer-to-blame" makes a compelling and sincere statemement on how a new backdoor was born from a completely humane error?
