Wasn’t this story the exact plot of Outbreak?

On a serious note, if the CDC told them to test for something, wouldn’t that answer the question about what the monkeys could have had?

Herpes. The above article just leaves it up to your imagination, but as other articles point out "According to the CDC, this species commonly spreads herpes virus B through saliva, feces or urine."[1] Which explains why she was given a rabies vaccine and treated with a course of Valacyclovir.

This story is going to give me nightmares, it sounds like the plot of a horror film. I feel terrible for her and hope that it turns out to be nothing.

My dark sense of humor has to ask the question "Yeah but was she wearing her mask?"

Wasn't there that film "12 Monkeys"? I think it was filmed just down the road in Baltimore.

Wow I forgot how hard it is to read the combination of "weird thing happens" and "local news outlets write about it first". Not much in the way of details. How close did she get? Did she actually touch any of the monkeys, or their cages? Local news never asks the interesting questions.
