The irony is that there are cryptographically verifiable, immutable databases like immudb that are much more efficient, but you would not be able to use them as an asset requiring a steady supply of greater fools, so they are not hyped up with religious fervor like blockchains are.
Blockchains are really the worst technology to build anything on, and the only reason Web3 is being pushed is to recruit more fools willing to throw USD into a black hole that also consumes a lot of electricity.
