Except NFTs aren't JPEG typically. Its often just a URL-link.

NFTs are basically a marketplace to trade "ownership" of URL-links. And a lot of people can't seem to tell me what "ownership" really means in this context (aside from I paid X money for it).

It's not about ownership of the URL. It's about ownership of the token itself - the interesting thing is who issued it, how it got to you. Think downloading photocopied Mona Lisa VS obtaining the original directly from Leonardo VS buying the original from a second party. NFT is a certificate that says "this party minted it" and then people do transactions with that. People buy ugly or useless stuff just for the sentimental value of the transaction itself all the time (museum/zoo coins or signed photos, for example), NFT is just that but digitized.

Liquidity position "Silly JPEG"? Domain name "Silly JPEG"? Doesn't work. NFTs don't necessarily have off chain URL-links (Uniswap v3 positions). Most of the interesting uses of NFTs aren't about an image.
