Of course they shouldn't. The programmers are the drivers, the car owner is just a passenger.
If I set my cruise control to 45 in a 45 mph zone and then cruise through a section that is 30 but still maintain 45 then I shouldn't get at traffic ticket?

If I set my car to automatically choose the speed based on map data and the map data does not know about the transition from 45 to 30 based on a map error then I shouldn't get a traffic ticket?

At the moment, if I set a machine in motion I am generally liable for any effects. It is similar to the "pilot in command" in aircraft and boats.
