This is the correct response. Don't speak to the MSM. Publicize on your own to stay in control of your narrative. A reporter will distort and misquote your words to fit an existing narrative and generate more outrage clicks.
The real reason they declined to answer what they found objectionable is that the movement to ban books is coming from ‘grassroots’ groups that are financed by GOP mega donors and the donors would rather have that part left out. The purpose is to keep stoking the culture war to keep people voting for their side.

In this instance, it’s the GOP, but all sides are guilty of such maneuvers.
