Teaching a one-hour seminar on why social scientists should learn to code.

I am an n-th year PhD student in sociology running a one-hour(!) seminar for our incoming graduate students. My topic is "Why sociologists should learn to code." I have already covered the reasons in the abstract but I want to give a quick overview of "thinking like a programmer."

Obviously, I am creating a supplementary document that goes into more depth and suggests next steps, but if you were a non-programmer social scientist, what might be some of the concepts that would make you think "oh, yeah, I definitely need to do this"?
