I’m still surprised that it’s a revelation to many managers.

it is a progressive idea, but the paradox is that psychological safety is most easily achieved through homogenising teams.

Think about situations where we voluntarily cohere into groups - girls night out, D&D role playing night, weekend watching the game (with fans of the same team). These are all great psychologically safe things to do, precisely because everyone else is in-group. Indeed, these events get significantly disrupted when a newcomer is present, as suddenly it may not be possible to speak / behave as freely as before.
