Amazon is another one of those things that used to be good but now it is not. I have had great success with the very similar WalMart Plus.
Same. I got Walmart plus for free as a credit card benefit and kinda rolled my eyes at it. But after using it a handful of times (for 2 day shipping and same/next day grocery delivery) I'm a fan of it. Plus it feels good to support small retailers (compared to Amazon). The reviews aren't very high-signal, but they do a better job handling compensated reviews than Amazon
Um….not sure if you were joking but even compared to Amazon, in no way, shape or form can Walmart be considered a small retailer.
I wonder where they are going with this? I don't think they are stupid, so I'd expect there is more to it than "let's just charge more".

I cancelled prime a few years ago because I got nothing out of it. Half of what I was buying was either "not eligible for prime" or an add-on item that i have to buy x$ worth of stuff to get shipped free, which I can do without prime. That and I buy less stuff from amazon because it's all review-gaming cheap crap now anyway and sketchy third party sellers that amazon barely lets you know are selling to you instead of them.

So they have an increasingly bad product they are raising the price on. Like I say, they must have some angle

I only joined Prime for the free two-day shipping. While Amazon halted that during the pandemic, they have claimed that such restrictions have passed.

Two-day service still has not been restored for me; my purchases usually take a week to arrive. From what I can tell, this seems to have been intentional on their part for rural addresses. Notably, their competitors have no problem getting parcels to us in a timely manner.

So for over a year, they have not been delivering the principle benefit that they promised to me when I signed up. Now, they have the gall to ask me to pay more. What phenomenal hubris. Couple this cash grab with their diminishing ability to hire and retain top engineering talent, and I think that it's time for me to get off their ride.

Goodbye, Amazon.

It was $79/year in 2014. The price has almost doubled since then. Has the value you've gotten since then almost doubled?
And my renew was scheduled for February. Great timing to finally cancel it.
I am definitely getting my money out of Amazon Prime. I ordered 269 items on Amazon last year and 281 the year before up from 93 and 91 the prior two years. Plus whatever my wife ordered which is probably at least that many.

I regularly get next day shipping on orders and often same day or overnight delivery.

Plus the free delivery of groceries is nice compared to paying for Instacart or shipt or the per delivery fee from the local grocery stores.

I don’t use many of the digital services except for occasionally prime video but definitely feel like I get a good value for all the shipping.

In Australia it is currently AUD$6.99 per month (about USD$4.99) This includes 2 day Prime shipping (things regularly arrive next day for me), free international shipping for orders over AUD$50, Prime Video and Music.

It is currently worth it for me, because I buy quite a bit from the US Amazon site and international shipping is usually a killer. I am sure that once Amazon has a hold in Australia like it has in the US the price will start to creep up and then I will need to reassess whether it is still worth it but at the moment it is great value here.
