Astonishment? Anger? Weird. They’re just signaling to me that they don’t want me to write software for their platform. And I can’t recommend the App Store to clients because all of their billed hours might be effectively nullified if Apple says, “Nah, I don’t like that.”

That’s fine. I’ll take my ball and play somewhere else.

As if Apple cares what developers think. Absolutely nobody on their exec team will have been surprised by this reaction, but that's fine. They already have all the apps they need to keep Apple's position in the market.
I'm just wondering how this type of thing effects businesses that have an external presence, but also have an app just to make things nicer for apple users...

Does Netflix have to pay %30 of their subscription fee if someone downloads the netflix app? I highly doubt that.

I'm genuinely curious because I know nothing about the apple ecosystem. I don't own any apple devices, yet I inherited an app that was removed from the app store. A bunch of my customers want it back but I haven't had much success yet.
