This is some new definition of "confirmed" that I was previously unaware of. From my reading, the only thing that's been confirmed is that some bright spots on Mars that were previously thought couldn't be liquid water (because the temperature was too low) actually could be liquid water because scientists found a sufficiently salty brine that would stay liquid at that temperature.
