I do not agree with the premise and the supposed relationships among these categories: "...there are three major actors in any sovereign community— the market, the State, and the society." And the end summary is basically a form of a case against state intervention into "markets" (in this case besides trade also society/culture).
A model not explicitly based on material and energy inputs into a territory (sovereign community) as the basis for a cultural and market forces emergence is in my view not going to be much representative of reality.
