Ask HN: Someone needs to reinvent stumble upon for mobile

8 points by shisisms ↗ HN
So much written on how discovery and search have been narrowed both for the hunt for profit and the de-quirkisation of the web.

A fast, mobile-focussed stumble site that threw up site after site, possible with progressive learning of your interests might just pierce the dull dystopian boredom of modern surfing.

Anyone?

Why not you?
I might just, lol.

Wondered if anyone thought it was a good idea?

It’s a great idea. It also seems like it ought to be a simple UI and easy to do, at least if it wasn’t for spam.

Look up my email in my profile and I’ll share what I know about the problem.

I think Stumble Upon was too early for its time, back when forums, FB, Google worked fine for discovery. Pocket did this well for a while, but seems to be terrible now. Same with Product Hunt.

If someone wants to do it, it's a great time now.

Yeah I’m finding the same with Pocket, the recommendations are limited. Issue is going to be collecting the sites initially, without curating them could end up being terrible. Unless let the whole thing be community driven. Not easy.
Excellence requires presence, but everyone tries to automate everything to some algorithm.
It's called mix.com . Made by same guys as stumble upon.

They pull posts and videos from reddit/youtube and then show them on the phone app. Good if you are 20yr old kid, bad if you are (internet)veteran.
